From the outset of the 2012 Wimbledon final, Federer fans were a bit shaken when Andy Murray took the first set with ease. However, Federer proved himself to be the ultimate of champions when he took control of the match from the second set to his triumphant fourth. Federer enthusiastically accepted his seventh Wimbledon trophy while wearing the new Rolex Rose Gold 40mm President watch on his left wrist.
With a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 victory, Federer retook the #1 men’s tennis ranking and earned his record-equaling seventh Wimbledon title. Now at 30-years-old, the champion is noted as the oldest Wimbledon men’s champion since Arthur Ashe won in 1975. Also, Federer ties Sampras’ record of 286 weeks at #1 ranking.
After falling to the ground in celebration following his winning shot, Federer told reporters “I played some of my best tennis in the last couple of matches. I’ve missed playing in the finals, and it feels like a great moment. I’ve gone through some struggles, so this one comes at the right time.”
Murray was disappointed at his loss, yet the 25-year-old knows that he has many more years ahead of him to win his first Wimbledon title. “I’m getting closer,” shared Murray. “I was told after my semi-final that this was my best chance. Roger’s 30 now, but he’s not bad for a 30-year-old, he played a great tournament.”
Rolex Sponsored Federer without a doubt revealed his unbelievable talent and unparalleled grace on the court. This is perhaps why the Rolex Company has attached the champion to its prized Rolex Sky-Dweller, Pre-owned Rolex Datejust, and Rolex President watch models.
There is no telling what the rest of 2012 has in store for Roger Federer. His next stop is the 2012 Olympic Games that very well may end in a gold medal win. The closest Federer has come to a gold medal was in the 2000 Olympics when he came in 4th place.
With the Rolex Company proud of one of their favorite tennis pros, Federer has reinforced why each year he garners $30 million dollars with all of his sponsorship deals combined. Much like the Rolex Datejust, Federer is without a doubt versatile, reliable, and amazingly durable.
Congratulations to Federer in his family. More news to come as the Olympics approach…
