About Womens Yacht Master Watches

View our collection of Ladies Rolex Yachtmasters. Or click here to view our Men's Rolex Yachtmaster collection. Introduced in the early-1990s, the Yacht-Master is Rolex's luxurious sports watch dedicated to the nautical life. This sailing inspired timepiece is available in a range of materials and size options for women and men. Except for smaller cases, the women's Rolex Yacht-Master watches are identical in design and functionality to the men's versions. As such, Yacht-Master watches for ladies include a time and date dial along with a bi-directional rotating timing bezel graduated to 60 minutes. The Yacht-Master is the only Rolex sports watch collection that offers models specifically for the female clientele. Whether in steel and platinum, steel and gold, full gold, and with or without gems, Yacht-Master watches are some of the finest women's sports watches in the luxury market.

History of the Women's Rolex Yacht-Master

Following the release of the 40mm Yacht-Master in 1992, Rolex introduced two new smaller sizes in 1994. There was the midsize Yacht-Master featuring a 35mm case and the ladies' Yacht-Master sporting a 29mm case - two sizes often favored by women. These first two women's Yacht-Master watches were made in full yellow gold.

The following year, two-tone versions of the Yacht-Master 35 and Yacht-Master 29 joined the collection, combining stainless steel and yellow gold. In Rolex-speak, the marriage of steel and gold on one watch is dubbed Rolesor.

By 1999, Rolex expanded the Yacht-Master collection yet again with a material option the brand calls Rolesium. Rolesium Yacht-Master watches feature stainless steel cases and bracelets, coupled with platinum bezels. The Yacht-Master is the only collection to offer Rolesium Rolex watches and it has become the most popular material choice within the Yacht-Master lineup.

In 2015, Rolex discontinued the 35mm and 29mm versions of the women's Yacht-Master and replaced them with a 37mm Yacht-Master model, complete with a new-generation Caliber 2236 automatic movement. The first Yacht-Master 37 was an Everose gold (Rolex's proprietary pink gold alloy) model, fitted with a black Cerachrom ceramic bezel and black Oysterflex rubber bracelet. Soon after, a two-tone Yacht-Master 37 appeared, which Everose gold rather than yellow gold with stainless steel. Naturally, Rolex also added a Rolesium version of the Yacht-Master 37 to round out the collection.

Prices

Depending on the size, material, and age, prices of women's Rolex Yacht-Master watches can differ quite dramatically. At retail, current-production Yacht-Master 37 models start above $11,000 for the Rolesium editions, however price points can reach beyond $40,000 for gold and diamond versions. Thankfully, the secondary market offers plenty of significant savings when it comes to Yacht-Master watches for women. Below are some examples of what prices to expect when buying a ladies' Yacht-Master watch.

How Much is a Women's Rolex Yacht-Master?

In general, pre-owned women's Rolex Yacht-Master models are less expensive than those sold at retail—which is not a trend we see across all Rolex sports watches. Older discontinued editions, such as the Yacht-Master 29 and the Yacht-Master 35, are priced particularly well especially in Rolesium and/or two-tone. It is not uncommon to find a pre-owned ladies Rolesium Yacht-Master watch around the $5,000 mark.

The most expensive women's Rolex Yacht-Master is the current-production ref. 268655 with an 18k Everose gold case and black Oysterflex bracelet. Prices for secondhand Yacht-Master 37 ref. 268655 watches start at around $19,000 for versions without diamonds and around $34,000 for the ultra-luxurious diamond paved dial edition.

Reference Numbers

Over the last 25 years or so, Rolex has made three main Yacht-Master models for women: the Yacht-Master 29, the Yacht-Master 35, and the Yacht-Master 37. While the first two have been discontinued since the mid-2010s, they are still widely available in the secondary market and offer a great choice for ladies' looking for a smaller sized sports watch. Below is an overview of all the women's Yacht-Master references made over the years.

Women's Yacht-Master Key Features

Materials

The Yacht-Master collection is home to an assortment of material options, including one material combination that is only found on this particular Rolex watch – Rolesium, which brings together stainless steel and platinum on one watch.

Aside from Rolesium, there are also women's Yacht-Master models in 18k yellow gold, 18k Everose gold, and two-tone steel and gold. Although yellow was the shade of gold Rolex originally used on Yacht-Master watches, in 2015, it was replaced by pink Everose gold. The last digit of the ladies Yacht-Master's reference number indicates the material of the watch.

  • 1 = Everose Rolesor (A combination of stainless steel and Everose gold)
  • 2 = Rolesium (A combination of stainless steel and platinum)
  • 3 = Yellow Rolesor (A combination of stainless steel and yellow gold)
  • 5 = Everose Gold (Rolex's proprietary rose gold alloy)
  • 8 = Yellow Gold

Bezel

Similar to the Submariner, the Yacht-Master features a rotating bezel marked to 60 minutes to permit users to measure elapsed time. However, unlike the Submariner, the Yacht-Master's bezel is bidirectional rather than unidirectional. Furthermore, the Yacht-Master bezel is characterized by raised numerals and graduations. This design is notably different to the style of other Rolex sports watch bezels, which typically include either printed or engraved scales.

The material of a Yacht-Master bezel varies depending on the specific watch reference. For the majority of the Yacht-Master's history, the watch was fitted with a bezel fashioned entirely either gold or platinum. However, in 2015, Rolex furnished the Everose gold Yacht-Master with a black Cerachrom ceramic bezel, which is both scratch and fade resistant. The Everose gold version is currently the only women's Yacht-Master with a Cerachrom ceramic bezel—the rest have either platinum or Everose gold ones.

Here are the possible bezel material variations within the women's Rolex Yacht-Master lineup:

  • Yacht-Master with a steel case: platinum bezel
  • Yacht-Master with a yellow gold case: yellow gold bezel
  • Yacht-Master with an Everose gold case: black Cerachrom bezel
  • Yacht-Master with a two-tone yellow gold and steel case: yellow gold bezel
  • Yacht-Master with a two-tone Everose gold and steel case: Everose gold bezel

Bracelets

There are two types of bracelets available within the ladies' Yacht-Master collection: the metal Oyster bracelet and the rubber-clad Oysterflex bracelet.

For the first two decades of the Yacht-Master's history, the watch was exclusively paired with the sporty three-link Oyster bracelet, whether in full steel, full gold, or two-tone steel and gold. Current versions of the Yacht-Master Oyster bracelet all come fitted with a folding Oysterlock safety clasp equipped with an Easylink 5mm comfort extension link to allow micro adjustments without the need for tools.

In 2016, Rolex opted to debut a brand new bracelet style, called the Oysterflex, on two Yacht-Master watches including the midsize Yacht-Master 37 ref. 268655. The Oysterflex brings together a metal blade interior with a black elastomer exterior to create a durable, yet flexible, rubber bracelet. The Oysterlfex bracelet of the Yacht-Master ref. 268655 is furnished with an 18k Everose gold deployant clasp to match the case material.

Movements

Over the course of the history of women's Yacht-Masters, there have been three different movements used to power the watches.

  • Yacht-Master 29 & Yacht-Master 35: Caliber 2135 – from 1994 onwards
  • Yacht-Master 29 & Yacht-Master 35: Caliber 2235 – from 1999 onwards
  • Yacht-Master 37: Caliber 2236 – from 2015 onwards

Regardless of the caliber reference, these are all chronometer-certified automatic movements that power the time and date functions of the Yacht-Master watches. They also all offer quickset date functionality, which means that the date can be set independently from the timekeeping hands.

When Rolex introduced the Caliber 2236 in 2014 (inside a Pearlmaster watch) it was noted for having a Syloxi (a silicon/silicium) hairspring for better resistance to magnetism. Furthermore, Caliber 2236 has a slightly higher power reserve rating of 55 hours compared to the 48-hour power reserve of the two previous calibers.

Dials

As is often the case with most Rolex sports watches, the Yacht-Master models house dials with Mercedes-style hands and a mix of luminous geometric indexes. The dial layout includes a date window at 3 o'clock, rectangular markers at 6 and 9 o'clock, an inverted triangle at 12 o'clock, and round markers at the remaining hours.

In customary Rolex fashion, there are plenty of Yacht-Master dial options to choose from:

  • White dial
  • Champagne dial
  • Blue dial
  • Mother-of-pearl dial
  • Platinum dial
  • Slate dial
  • Chocolate dial
  • Black dial
  • Serti dial
  • Diamond pavé dial

Serti dials, which is a nickname derived from the French word for "setting," are dials with hour markers set with precious gemstones like diamonds, rubies, and sapphires. Platinum dials are a popular choice among Rolesium Yacht-Master watches since the sandblasted platinum dial surface matches the sandblasted platinum bezel. One of the defining design traits of the Everose gold Yacht-Master 37 is its matte black dial, which perfectly matches the matte black Cerachrom bezel.

Regardless of the age of the watch, all Yacht-Master models have a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protecting the dial. Furthermore, since the Yacht-Master includes a date window on the dial, the sapphire crystal is home to the customary Cyclops lens bubble to magnify the date by 2.5 times.

Common Questions

What Is A Yacht-Master?

The Yacht-Master is Rolex's nautical-inspired and ultra-luxurious sports watch first introduced in 1992. It is water resistant to 100 meters (330 feet) and equipped with a rotating bezel graduated to 60 minutes to allow wearers to tracked elapsed times. The Yacht-Master is not only available in various materials but also in a range of sizes for both men and women. In fact, the Rolex Yacht-Master is the only sports watch collection from the brand that offers smaller sizes specifically for ladies that appreciate more restrained case dimensions.

Does Rolex Yacht-Master Hold Value?

Like many Rolex watch collections, some Yacht-Master models hold better value than others. For instance, older discontinued Yacht-Master models for women with either 29mm or 35mm cases can be purchased in the secondary market at prices below what they once sold for at retail. However, newer steel and platinum Yacht-Master models tend to hold their value well and it is not uncommon to see the newest Rolesium Yacht-Master 37 ref. 268622 sell at or above retail prices in the secondary market.

What Size Are Ladies' Rolex Watches?

Rolex offers a variety of sizes within its collection of ladies' watches, generally ranging from a petite 26mm to a generous 39mm. The women's Yacht-Master Rolex watches were historically offered with either 29mm or 35mm cases, dubbed "ladies" and "midsize," respectively. However, these sizes were discontinued in 2015. The smallest Yacht-Masters currently in production (which are positioned by Rolex as unisex watches) are ones with 37mm cases.

Celebrities Who Wear The Yacht-Master

Former tennis pros, Ana Ivanović, Justin Henin, and Mirka Federer have all been spotted wearing Yacht-Master on their wrists. Lydia Ko, who became the number 1-ranked woman professional golfer in 2015 at just 17 years old, is also a fan of the Rolex Yacht-Master, switching between the Everose and Rolesium models. Finally, perhaps the most famous female Rolex collector today, television personality Ellen has at least two Everose gold Yacht-Master watches in her collection—one with a black dial and the other with the ultra-lavish diamond-paved dial.
