Vintage Watch Condition Examination:
This Day-Date is in overall great, vintage condition. The case is in good condition with some wear; the hallmark on the back of the one o'clock lug is clearly visible. The smooth bezel is in great condition. The dial is in overall great condition with light patina and some light wear/ marks. The lume has aged to an attractive yellow color; the eight and 10 o'clock plots show signs of degradation. The hour markers and hands have developed patina. The lume in the hands appears to have been redone and is a pale yellow color. The rivet Oyster bracelet is in great overall condition with some stretch between the links. The crystal has light wear.
Description: Rolex Day-Date 1802
Pre-owned Rolex Day-Date ref 1802 (circa 1963). The vintage gold President, which is usually distinguished by a fluted bezel and President bracelet (ref. 1803), takes on a different and arguably more fascinating aesthetic on this rare ref. 1802. The watch face on this model is surrounded by a smooth bezel instead of the more common fluted variety, and the President bracelet with semi-circular links that typically accompanies Day-Date models has been replaced with the flat-link Oyster bracelet. We don't see this variation of the vintage Day-Date often. Still, this model has many of the vintage hallmarks passionate collectors are after, including a riveted bracelet, acrylic crystal, and charming "Pie Pan" dial decorated with older-style hour markers and Tritium that has since aged to a yellowish hue that now slightly matches the gold hour markers. Gold Rolexes are a serious investment, and this rare Day-Date is worth every penny.
