Rolex initially produced ref. 9630 in limited edition quantities of just 1,000 pieces, one of a few rare limited edition collections ever released by the brand. The King Midas is named after the Greek King, who was fabled to turn anything he touched with his left hand into gold. Appropriately, the collection is produced from a single block of either yellow or white gold. It also notably boasts a left-hand design as a further nod toward King Midas and an asymmetrical case designed to mirror the Parthenon in Athens, Greece.
