The Quartz Crisis during the 1970s rocked the Swiss watchmaking industry. To keep up with the massive shift in watch trends during that era, many of the world's most notable watch brands developed their own quartz-powered timepieces. Rolex was among those brands. The OysterQuartz series was a result of the crises in the 1970s that boasts a Rolex Quartz movement. It also features classic dress watch styling with a traditional Oyster case and Datejust dial topped with a date disc. What sets the OysterQuartz series apart from other models in the Rolex line up is the integrated bracelet and more sharply angled lugs on the case. The 17000 is an important piece of Rolex history.
