Pre-Owned Watch Condition Examination:
This Submariner is in excellent, honest vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is strong with some wear and scratches; it appears to be lightly polished with bevels still visible. The bezel ring has remained sharp and the bezel insert is in great condition with some light wear and scratches. The pip at 12 is a later replacement. The correct non-triplock crown has a bit of wear. The matte black dial is in overall excellent condition with light patina. The lume on the hour markers have developed patina and aged to a striking custard yellow color. The hands have developed patina and the lume in the hands have aged to a darker yellow than the lume on the dial; this is not uncommon. The folded link bracelet is in great, honest condition with some scratches and wear, it has a bit of stretch between the links. The bracelet appears to be unpolished. The crystal has some scratches and light wear.
Description: Rolex Vintage Submariner 5513
This Pre-Owned Rolex Submariner ref 5513, Circa 1970 was one of the longest continually produced references from the brand. Rolex initially used glossy dials in this model and swapped to matte around 1966. Collectors have identified many different versions of the matte dial 5513 and this example features a "feet first, non-serif" dial.
This 5513 has aged beautifully over the years and the lume has all aged to a rich yellow color giving the watch an instantly recognizable vintage athestic. In addition to being a real looker, this watch comes complete with its box and punched papers. It also features a folded link bracelet with error divers extension. Rolex misspelled patented on the divers extension, it reads "Pateted." These error bracelets are becoming more sought after by collectors because they bring the watch to the next level of rarity.
This 5513 has a very honest and cohesive look from the case to the bracelet and bezel, everything matches in terms of condition and has a great overall look and feel. If you have been in the market for a matte dial 5513 with a striking patina, this is worth considering.
