Tiger Woods is a Rolex Ambassador.
Tiger Woods has officially announced that he has reached an endorsement deal with Rolex Corporation. This will be his first endorsement contract since his adultery scandal in 2009. As result of the scandal, Woods lost five high-profile deals including a watch contract with Tag Heuer. Tag officially dropped his contract two months ago. This opened up the door for Rolex to make Tiger an official brand ambassador.
The announcement was made by Tiger’s agent Mark Steinberg of Excel Sports Management at the Frys.com Open in California. The tournament is Tiger’s return to the PGA Tour, since a recent break. It is estimated that the Tiger Woods brand is still worth approximately $55 million per year. With that being said, his favorite watch is the Sea-Dweller.
It is rumored that Tiger’s Rolex contract is slated for more than five years. The full terms of his contract are yet to be disclosed. Rolex shared that they are thrilled to have the famed golfer be a part of their family for years to come and are paying tribute “to the exceptional stature of Tiger Woods and the leading role he plays in forging sport’s global appeal. Rolex is convinced that he still has a long career ahead of him and that he has all the qualities required to continue to mark the history of golf.
Golf enthusiasts are currently flocking to see him play. In fact, Golf.com has reported the Frys.com Open has sold more than three times the number of tickets sold last year for the same tournament.
“This makes a big statement,” Steinberg said. “I think this shows me where people are with Tiger Woods.”
Steinberg also shared that he has other deals lined up for Woods after losing lucrative contracts with Accenture, Gatorade, Gillette and AT&T. It is speculated that his first deal may surround a Wood’s branded golf bag and his second may be with Fry’s Electronics.
It has not yet been revealed which Rolex model Tiger will sport. Once it is determined, sales on new and used Rolex for that particular model are expected to see a healthy boost. Most likely he’ll be choosing between the Submariner Watch, AKA Rolex Sub, Rolex Explorer or Datejust models. Stay tuned to find out which one he’ll choose!
