The best field in golf starts today
Today marks the start of The Players Championship, which will run from May 10 – 15, 2016 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. All 20 of the world’s top golfers will be playing in this year’s edition of The Players including the Rolex golf ambassadors Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, Adam Scott, and Phil Mickelson.
Eyes on Jordan Spieth
All eyes will be on Spieth during his game at TPC Sawgrass as this is his first tournament since his painful loss at the 2016 Masters to Danny Willett. Nevertheless, he is still a favorite to win tying with fellow competitor Rory McIlroy with 9-1 odds, while Day, the current number one ranked golfer in the world, is coming into the game with 10-1 odds to win.
Defending champion Fowler won the 2015 Players after the tournament’s first ever three-hole aggregate playoff against Sergio Garcia and Kevin Kisner. As he clutched the championship trophy, Fowler had on his wrist the Rolex Daytona anniversary edition crafted in platinum with a brown Cerachrom ceramic bezel and ice blue dial. In fact, the previous two champs of the Players Championship prior to Fowler’s victory were also both Rolex golf ambassadors — Martin Kaymer in 2014 and Tiger Woods in 2013. Kaymer had on his gold Rolex Daytona during the prize-giving ceremony while Woods sported his stainless steel Rolex Deepsea. Legendary golfer and longtime Rolex ambassador, Jack Nicklaus, remains the only three-time winner of The Players to date.

Regarded by many as the fifth major, the Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass is home to the most famous hole in golf: the island green at No. 17. Countless memorable shots have taken place here and players are known to dread the walk from 16 to the infamous 17, while fans wait in anticipation in the stadium to watch the drama unfold.
A strong supporter of golf, Rolex counts the sport’s best players, of today and yesterday, as ambassadors and actively supports some of the best tournaments around the world. In 2015, the PGA Tour and Rolex announced an 11-year extension of their partnership, designating Rolex as the Official Timekeeper of the PGA TOUR, Champions Tour and Web.com Tour.
The Player Championship is sure to continue to bring out the best of competitors. It remains to be seen who will reign victorious come Sunday, but we say that the chances of a Rolex watch being worn by the winner while holding his trophy are pretty high.
