5 Ways to Wear the Rolex Fluted Bezel

Paul Altieri

The fluted bezel by Rolex is one of the watchmaker’s main design motifs. It can be found on a number of Rolex collections from the classic Datejust to the luxurious Day-Date to the sporty Sky-Dweller and others. Whether used as a decorative element or a practical tool, the addition of a classy bezel lends the watch a “very Rolex” look thus, immediately recognizable. Here we take a look at five awesome ways to wear this iconic style.

Datejust II

A contemporary iteration of the traditional Rolex Datejust is the Datejust II collection sized at a larger 41mm. The fluted bezel adds a touch of elegance to a modern classic and is always crafted in either white or yellow gold. The fluted bezel and can be found on both Datejust II stainless steel models as well as two-tone Rolesor versions.

Day-Date

The most prestigious of all Rolex dress watches is hands down the Day-Date President. Exclusively crafted in gold or platinum, when the Rolex President made its debut in 1956 it was outfitted with a fluted bezel. Although today other bezel options are offered, such as smooth or diamond-set, the fluted route is the classic choice.

Lady Datejust

Available in a wide range of materials, sizes, styles, and gem options, the versatility of the Rolex Lady Datejust is unparalleled. The shine that a gold fluted bezel adds to the watch is supremely elegant and looks great on all materials from stainless steel to full gold to two-tone Rolesor models. Plus, fluted bezels on Lady Datejust timepieces look particularly good paired with diamonds on the dial.

Datejust Turn-O-Graph

A vintage-inspired and sporty rendition of the Datejust is the Turn-O-Graph. First introduced in 1953, then reissued in the early 2000s, the Turn-O-Graph was used by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbird aerobatic squadron pilots for navigational calculations done via the bezel. The 60-minute rotating fluted bezel on the 36mm “Thunderbird” is not only great to look at but offers practicality as well.

Sky-Dweller

Unveiled in 2012, the Rolex Sky-Dweller is the brand’s newest collection and also one of the most complex. The bezel on the Sky-Dweller is referred to as the Ring Command Bezel. The bezel actually interacts with the mechanical movement within the 42mm case to select the local time, home time, day, or month functions while the adjustment is done via the crown. Only offered in yellow, Everose, or white gold, the Sky-Dweller is an ultra lavish timepiece for the international traveler.
