This year was a happy one for Rolex fans around the world with the release of the new stainless steel Daytona with a ceramic bezel. It was exactly what everyone was waiting for. Because, prior to that Baselworld 2016 launch, the only other ceramic Daytona was the platinum one. While certainly gorgeous, the platinum Daytona ref. 116506-with the brown ceramic bezel and ice blue dial-is well out of reach for most. On the other hand, the new stainless steel Daytona ref. 116500LN, whether with a white or black dial, is much more attainable by a wider audience-even if the waitlists are incredibly long. What’s a few years of waiting for a Rolex watch you’ll keep forever?

All I want for Christmas is a steel GMT-Master II with a Pepsi ceramic bezel
A similar story to the ceramic Daytona is one of the GMT-Master II . We all know that the most iconic feature of the GMT-Master is the blue and red bezel a.k.a. the Pepsi. It was the color of the bezel on the very first GMT-Masters made for the Pan Am pilots back in 1955. The use of both colors is to differentiate between day and night hours when reading the second time zone from the 24-hour markings on the bezel—red for day and blue for night. Although throughout the years the GMT-Master bezel has had several dual-color variations—black and red “Coke”, brown and gold “Root Beer”, and blue and black “Batman”-blue and red remains the colors most associated with the collection.

Today, the only GMT-Master II Pepsi available in Rolex’s current catalog is the ref. 116719BLRO, which was unveiled in 2014. But just like the Daytona, this is a more luxurious, thus, more expensive, model using a precious metal. However, this time, instead of platinum, it’s white gold. The GMT-Master II ref. 116719BLRO is a stunning watch with its white gold 40mm Oyster case and blue and red ceramic bezel. Nevertheless, it’s probably beyond what most can spend on a Rolex sports watch.
New Stainless Steel GMT-Master II Pepsi?
The Rolex GMT-Master II ref. 116710BLNR known as the “Batman” for its blue and black colorway.
There is a contemporary stainless steel GMT-Master II with a ceramic bi-color bezel offered by Rolex. It’s the very popular ref. 116710BLNR, also known as the “Batman” for its blue and black colorway. While it’s one of Rolex’s most in demand sports watches right now, wouldn’t it be great if it were joined by a steel GMT-Master II model with the iconic Pepsi dial?
With around four short months until Baselworld 2017-the watch industry’s largest exhibition where all the top watch brands release their novelties for the year—here’s hoping that Rolex will match this year’s awesome steel and ceramic Daytona with a modern stainless steel GMT-Master II with a Pepsi bezel.
