A classic Rolex suited for both him and her

The most exclusive of Rolex dress watches, the Day-Date collection has been a staple among well-heeled gentlemen, and more recently ladies, for decades. Only ever produced in the most precious of metals, such as gold and platinum, the Day-Date models, also know as the “President”, is reserved for the absolute cream of the crop.

The Day-Date model is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year as it was first launched in 1956. This calendar timepiece from Rolex was the first wristwatch to display the day of the week spelled out in full, along with the date of the month. A very practical function that is just as appreciated today as it was back during its inception. On the original reference, Rolex also debuted the President bracelet – hence the model’s nickname – featuring a semi-circular three-piece links configuration that was not only supremely prestigious but also wonderfully ergonomic. Finishing off the President bracelet is the concealed folding Rolex Crownclasp. The moniker “President” for the Day-Date was firmly cemented after it was noted that American presidents, other heads-of-states, and world leaders frequently chose to sport one on their wrists.

Rolex Everose Day-Date 118205

Rolex Everose Day-Date 118205 comes iwht a typical president bracelet but in everose gold.

The Rolex Day-Date ref. 118205 in 18k Everose gold is part of the brand’s current offering and although it is originally designed for men,  its restrained 36mm size can be worn by both gents and ladies comfortably. Especially since oversized luxury watches are particularly on-trend for women today. Between the warm pink hue of the Rolex Everose gold on the case and bracelet, smooth domed bezel, sleek black dial, and Arabic numerals, the ref. 118205 is elegantly classic, yet contemporary. The discreet outer minute track, rose gold numerals, center hands, and iconic logo crown show beautifully against the deep black background, while the day of the week aperture, flanked by two number 1s, stands proudly at the top of the dial. Protecting the face of the refined watch is ultra scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with the famous Cyclops lens enlarging the date at 3’clock.

The Day-Date is a great first watch.

Beating at the center of the Day-Date 118205 is the proprietary Rolex Caliber 3155 – an automatic mechanical movement completely conceptualized, constructed, and tested by Rolex’s watchmakers within their ateliers. Labeled as a Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified, the Caliber 3155 is, as with all of Rolex’s movements, a supremely reliable and precise timekeeping instrument. Protected by the watertight Oystercase and Twinlock system equipped screw-down crown, the watch can safely submerge underwater up to 330 feet deep.

While submersible up to 330 feet, its not always the best ideal to take a Day-Date down there.

This particular pink gold President is a stunning example of Rolex’s mastery of understated elegance. It is undoubtedly luxurious, yet unpretentious. Technically sound, aesthetically pleasing, and instantaneously recognizable, the Day-Date 118205 is a watch to cherish every day and treasure for a lifetime.
