Mechanical Movements Are Pointless<\/h2>\n

I mean, yeah, quartz is accurate and thin and often cheaper compared to mechanical watches. But any long-standing collector knows mechanical watches are where you will find all of the value and prestige. Plus there\u2019s nothing like the feel of a mechanical watch on your wrist or the way you have to wind a manual movement. In an increasingly hands-off world, the mechanical watch brings you the tactility you crave that a quartz movement just lacks.<\/p>\n

\"Vintage<\/p>\n

Rolex should stop making stainless steel watches<\/h2>\n

Gasp. Yes, there are some people out there who think Rolex is beyond the stainless steel watch – that they’re lowering their standards by working with the 904L alloy. But for a company built on utility and resilience, it’s only natural that over the years Rolex has continually and successfully paired refined-design with the less-expensive but ever-durable material. We don’t see Rolex taking this approach anytime soon, and most collectors are happy about that – just look at the historically high prices and long waitlists for stainless steel Rolex watches right now.<\/p>\n

Colored bezels are for kids<\/h2>\n

With nicknames like Coke, Pepsi, Root Beer, Hulk, and Batman, it’s easy to understand why some collectors think colored bezels are made for kids. But if you ask me, I think these people just take themselves way too seriously. Obviously colored bezels were made for utilitarian purposes – making time easier to read or distinguish. But their fun colors have become a beloved touch of whimsy on otherwise brutally serious and functional watches. In fact, today Rolex watches with colored bezels are some of the hottest collector’s items both on the vintage and retail market.<\/p>\n

So are numbers on the dial<\/h2>\n

Yes, there are people out there who think that Arabic or Roman numerals on the dial take away from the face. They also think that unless you’re six years old, you don’t need the numbers to actually figure out the time. And while that’s probably true, it would be a pretty boring world if we were all only looking at numeral-less dials, right? Plus there are lots of watches that are famous, if not iconic, due to their numeral typography.<\/p>\n
