Find the best deals to buy or sell the amazing vintage Rolex model 5512 Submariner. This incredible diving model watch is becoming increasingly more valuable as collectors demand has increased the past few years. Some 5512's can sell for as much as $30,000. A bit of history on the 5512 Rolex Sub:
It is a very early submariner that was launched in 1959. While the model series may seem simple, it is actually quite unique as compared to his successor, the Rolex 5513. To start, the 5512 was only produced for about 15 years while the 5513 was produced for over 30 years. Hence, there are many more 5513's in circulation. What is important to know about the 5512 is that it was the first Rolex to have crown guards ( to protected the winding crown ). All the prior models -the 6200, 6204, 6538, 5508, 6536 and 6536-1 were all made with no crown guards. The very early ones had "square crown guards" and have become very desirable and valuable these past 5 years. Another noteworthy characteristic of the 552, versus the 5513, is the Chronometer rating (also called four line model) that came with this watch in the mid 1960's. Rolex stopped production of the 5512 in the late 1960's and the printing on the dial changed to white ( it was previously gilt ).

  • Movement - Early versions of ref 5512 (before 1965) features the calibre 1530 automatic movement with 25 jewels. After 1965, ref 5512 offered the caliber 1560 or 1570 movement. The movements for ref 5512 are chronometer rated movements.
  • Waterproof Case - The 40 mm tonneau-shaped stainless steel case is able to withstand water pressure up to 200 meters (660 feet) through the use of a screw down back and screw down crown. The case also features square crown guards, and is topped with a domed acrylic crystal.
  • Dial - Ref 5512 offers a black lacquer dial with applied luminous dot, baton, and dagger numerals. The dial also sports luminous Mercedes hands and a sweep centre seconds hand. The case, dial, and movement are signed.
  • Bracelet - This particular timepiece features a stainless steel riveted expanding Fliplock Rolex Oyster bracelet with a stamped clasp.
  • Rotating Bezel - Ref 5512 offers a revolving black Spec T-L bezel, calibrated for 60 units.
  • Produced between 1959 and 1978.
  • The "Steve McQueen" Watch - Steve McQueen famously wore a Rolex Submariner Ref 5512 daily as well as in his last film the Hunter. His Submariner ref 5512 sold for $234,000 in 2009.
