History: Since its introduction in the 1960’s, there are two versions of Rolex Daytonas. The original version, manufactured in small numbers from 1960 to the 1980’s, has unique 4 digit reference numbers, or model numbers, engraved on the case. This model eventually became so popular in the early 90’s that it lead to a second version to meet surging worldwide demand.  This second version came with what is called a Zenith “ El Primero” and is often praised as the hallmark of chronographs for it’s accuracy and reliability. The Zenith movement is believed by most to be more accurate and reliable than its successor. The current version is made by Rolex and is noted by its 6 digit reference number.
