Vintage Watch Condition Examination:
This Submariner is in great vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is in good condition with normal signs of wear. The hallmarks on the back of the lugs are clearly visible. The bezel insert is in great condition with light wear; it is a service replacement. The blue nipple dial is in overall good, attractive overall condition with some patina throughout and wear around the hour markers (this can be hard to notice depending on the lighting).The dial has developed a beautiful fade in the center and is darker around the peripheral. The hour markers have developed patina and the lume on the dial has developed patina and has a lovely marshmallow hue. The hands have developed light patina and are later, luminova service replacements. The color of the lume in the hands goes well with the color of the lume on the dial. The bracelet is in good condition with normal signs of wear; it has some stretch between the links which is not uncommon. The crown on the clap is mostly worn.

Pre-owned Rolex Submariner Ref. 16808 (circa 1981) is a gold and blue edition of the trailblazing dive watch. When it hit the market over 40 years ago, it was only the second Submariner to feature a yellow gold finish, followed only by ref. 1680. While many collectors might be more familiar with the stainless steel ref. 1680, the watch was also produced in precious metal and with a black or blue dial like the 5-digit Rolex for sale here. Additionally, both models sport the date at 3 o'clock and distinctive nipple-style hour markers.
However, ref. 16808 sports several upgrades over its 4-digit processor, including scratch-resistant sapphire instead of acrylic, better water resistance up to 1,000 feet, and the higher-beat caliber 3035 Perpetual movement with a Quickset date. This example of the Rolex 16808 is in great vintage condition, featuring a striking blue dial and bezel. The dial on this Sub has aged nicely with the center fading a bit more than the edges adding to the overall vintage charm. In addition this comes with punched papers which is always a nice addition.
