This GMT-Master is in overall great, honest vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is strong with normal signs of wear and some nicks; it may have been lightly polished. The bevels are still visible. The red-back bezel is in great condition with normal wear; the colors have faded giving it an attractive vintage look. The matte black dial is in overall great condition with light patina and some dark patina around the edge. The lume on the dial has developed patina and aged to a lovey pale yellow color. The hands have developed patina and the lume in the hands has aged to a yellow color, similar to the dial. The USA jubilee bracelet is in good condition with normal signs of wear and some stretch between the links which is common for this style bracelet; it is a slightly later 1970s replacement.
The GMT Master is Rolex’s signature pilot’s watch, complete with dual-time capabilities. It came to market in 1955, with ref. 1675 following shortly after in 1959. It’s one of the most sought-after vintage Rolex watches on the secondary market because it’s instantly recognizable with its 24-hour bezel and dedicated GMT hand. The Rolex 1675 was also notably the first GMT Master to use crown guards. Rolex initially used glossy dials in the 1675 until around 1966 and switched to matte dials.
This circa 1967 example is in overall beautiful condition with it's beautifully aged lume and perfectly aged "Pepsi" bezel. Collectors refer to this dial variation as a Mark I "Long E." When looking at the "Rolex" text on the dial the "E" has a longer central bar (same length as the top and bottom ones) and that is where this nickname comes from. Rolex made many iterations of the GMT over the years and this watch has a couple additional interesting things to note. This watch has a "thin case" which is approximately 12.7mm and Rolex did this until approximately 1967. This watch also has the correct date-wheel for the time period with the closed 6's and 9s as well as hooked 7s. Additionally the movement is stamped "ROW" indicating it was made for the United States market (ROW was the US import code for Rolex ). Well represented watch in excellent condition. Super fast shipping. My second purchase from Bobs but not my last. Their watches seem to be in better condition than many of the others I’ve seen online.
The whole transaction process with Bob's is always top notch. The vintage watch was functioning as expected, the case is relatively strong with minimal polishing, and the dial is a beautiful service dial as expected.
I really like this beautiful 1675 with fuchsia bezel.
Quick e-mail responses, systematic
I have worn this watch everyday for 47 years, had it cleaned every 8 or so years, had the bezel replaced with the new one back in the 80s. Paid $400 in Switzerland in 1970. This is the greatest lifetime deal ever!!
