Vintage Watch Condition Examination:
This 1655 is in great, honest vintage condition. The case is in great condition with normal signs of wear; the watch appears to be lightly polished and the bevels are still visible on the lugs. The The bezel is in great condition with some normal wear. The dial is in great condition with some light patina throughout. The hands have developed patina. The lume on the dial and in the hands has developed patina and aged to a matching lovely yellow color. The orange hand has remained vibrant. The bracelet is in great condition with normal wear; it has a bit of stretch between the links which is common for this style bracelet.
Description: Vintage Rolex Explorer II Ref 1655 Steve McQueen
The 1655 Explorer is instantly recognizable from its bright orange 24 hour hand and steel 24 hour bezel. Rolex came out with this model in 1971 and it was specifically made for cave explorers. The purpose of the orange 24 hour hand is to help the wearer distinguish day vs night in environments where this isn't easily noticeable, like in a cave with complete darkness.
The example we have here is in great, honest condition; it features a "Mark II" dial and bezel. From the beautiful custard colored lume to the vibrant orange 24-hour hand, this thing really pops in the sunlight!
