When it debuted at Basel World 2016, the newest Air-King reference 116900 was met with mixed reviews. As with every watch that Rolex produces, this ref. 116900 is a highly sophisticated timepiece, offering a chronometer-rated calibre 3131 perpetual movement, a resilient Oystersteel finish, and a Chromalight display. Technically, the 6-digit reference is an impeccable timepiece. Where it loses some avid Air-King collectors is its obvious departure from the original model. The case is larger, measuring 40mm and features a dial that mirrors the style of cockpit instruments. While this choice is a nod towards its history as a pilot's watch, many collectors prefer the subtle dial of the classic models. Some may also find this upgrade exciting, as it brings the 1940's Air-King into the modern era. Excellent buyer experience. Bob’s made sure I was the one purchasing the Air King and not someone else who may have obtained my credit info. Watch was shipped the next day via Fedex as advertised. Description of watch was actually understated in a good way. Rolex was in even better condition than advertised I assume in an attempt to manage expectations which were happily exceeded.
