Vintage Watch Condition Examination:
This Rolex Explorer is in overall great vintage condition consistent with its age. The case is in good condition with normal signs of wear. The case number between the lugs at six o'clock is mostly rubbed, and since we have the punched papers we can decipher it and the reference number is mostly rubbed. The Mark I "Frog Foot" dial is in great condition with light patina; it has some darker patina around the edge that can be hard to notice. The lume on the dial has aged to a lovely and even pale yellow color. The hands have developed patina and the lume in the hands has aged to a matching yellow color. The fold over Oyster bracelet is in overall very good condition with normal signs of wear; it has a bit of stretch between the links which is common for this type of bracelet.

Rolex introduced the 1016 Explorer in 1959 and it was in production until 1989 making it one of the longest running produced references from the brand. At the beginning of the run Rolex made the dials glossy and then switched to the matte style around 1966.
