Vintage Rolex Submariner 16800
The Rolex 16800 is a newer vintage Submariner that came to market in around the 1980s. As a transitional model, the ref. 16800 is becoming increasingly popular among used Rolex collectors who seek a timepiece with both great horological significance and distinct vintage design. The Submariner that you see here today was among the references to boast a higher beat calibre 3035 Perpetual movement. Previous Submariners were powered by the 15xx series of movements that offered 19,800 bph, compared to the calibre 3035 with 28,800 bph. The transitional Sub also introduced the line to the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and a depth rating of up to 1,000 feet. The line is often found with a matte dial topped with Tritium luminous plots as well as a unidirectional bezel with an aluminum insert and a 40mm Oyster case on a flat-link Oyster bracelet.

Watch was in condition as pictured and described. Some major dents and scuffs on the bracelet/end-link were hidden well by the lighting but were very noticeable in person. Overall the watch was in great shape for the age.

I’ve bought multiple modern pieces from Bob’s and had a great experience every time. I’ve been looking to buy a birth year Rolex for awhile now and for me, that’s a late production run 16800. Couldn’t be happier with the watch and for those out there looking for a Sub, you should seriously consider the 16800. It has some great “modern” features, but holds true to a more vintage feel and elegance. Incredibly comfortable on the wrist and will undoubtedly continue to grow in value in my opinion. It’s a can’t miss buy all the way around.
