In 2016, Omega revamped their popular Seamaster Planet Ocean professional diving watch collection with some important technical and design details across all models. In true Omega fashion, the brand launched a robust assortment of new PO watches, but we’ll take a closer look at one model in particular—the Planet Ocean 600M Master Chronometer 43.5MM ref. 215.32.44.21.01.001. Let’s dive in. Click here to browse and shop our entire collection of OMEGA watches for sale.

This particular Seamaster Planet Ocean ref. 215.32.44.21.01.001 comes in a completely new Today, current versions of the Planet Ocean are available in 39.5mm, 43.5mm, and 45.5mm.size for the collection, 43.5mm. Interestingly, it’s a size that sits right in between the previous 42mm and 45.5mm case sizes of the men’s Planet Ocean watches. Furthermore, the stainless steel case is also slighter thinner—16.04mm—than previous models.

Take note of the bezel on the Seamaster Planet Ocean.

2. The New Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Bezel

A striking new design element of the updated Seamaster Planet Ocean ref. 215.32.44.21.01.001 is the inclusion of a new bezel. The black ceramic bezel now includes orange rubber on the first 15 minutes of the scale—a world’s first.

However, just like preceding PO watches, the unidirectional rotating bezel features numerals and scales in Liquidmetal material, which is a zirconium-based alloy that is ultra fade resistant.

Who would’ve thought Omega would add more thought into the detailed bracelet.

3. The New Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Strap

Matching the rubber on the bezel of the Seamaster Planet Ocean ref. 215.32.44.21.01.001 is the black and orange rubber strap. The black portion of the strap resembles woven fiber while the edges have orange rubber. Moreover, topping off the sporty look is the orange stitching. Also, for added practicality, the rubber strap underwent an anti-bacterial treatment.

The dial on the Planet Ocean has also had a few changes.

4.The New Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Dial

Right under the center broad-arrow hands of the Seamaster Planet Ocean ref. 215.32.44.21.01.001 we see the subtle [ZrO2] label indicating that the dial is, in fact, a polished black ceramic dial. This type of dial was previously on titanium PO watches and now for the first time, it’s available on the stainless steel Planet Ocean models.

Another subtle upgrade to the face of the watch is the modified 3, 6, and 9 Arabic numerals, which are not as round as older models. On the other hand, the new Seamaster Planet Ocean retains the date window at 3 o’clock.

Let’s not forget the movement on the watch.

5. The New Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Movement

In addition to all the aesthetic changes to the new the Planet Ocean 600M collection, Omega’s professional diving watch now boasts a new Master Chronometer movement too. Omega debuted the Master movements back in 2015 in the Globemaster timepiece. Built entirely in-house, these movements have passed tests set out by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS). Since then, Omega has steadily furnished key watches in their lineup with Master Chronometer movements.

The Seamaster Planet Ocean ref. 215.32.44.21.01.001 runs on the certified Master Chronometer Omega Caliber 8900 automatic movement with the Co-Axial escapement. Not only does this in-house mechanical movement offer 60 hours of power reserve, but it’s also impressively resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss.
