This is a proper 200-meter diver that doesn’t rely on loud colors or oversized branding to make its point. Instead, it relies on precision and quality. The stainless steel case measures 44.2mm, so it’s not small, but the proportions are well judged and the finishing does a lot of the work. The black dial is clean and purposeful, with LumiBrite applied to all twelve hour markers, including at 3 o’clock next to the date, something Grand Seiko added to improve legibility at depth. The rotating bezel is developed for real use and easy maintenance, and the crown area is shaped so salt, sand, or dirt don’t hang around longer than they should. These are the kinds of details you don’t always notice right away, but they matter over time. Lastly, inside is Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive caliber 9R65, which is really the heart of the watch. It’s powered by a mainspring but regulated by quartz, giving you that smooth, gliding seconds hand along with exceptional accuracy and a 72-hour power reserve.
