Vintage Rolex Datejust 36 ref 1603 Circa 1973 is in overall great vintage condition. The case is in good condition with normal signs of wear. The numbers are clearly visible between the lugs. The inside caseback is stamped "1603." The engine turned bezel is in great condition and the details are still defined. The pie-pan "linen" dial is in great condition with light patina. The lume on the dial has aged to a lovely yellow color. Some plots show signs of degradation. The hands are in great condition with some patina and the lume has developed patina and aged to a similar color as the lume on the dial. This has a USA "oval link" jubilee bracelet with 22 links. The bracelet is in overall good condition with normal wear and some stretch between the links which is not uncommon for this style bracelet. The crystal has some light wear.
Vintage Rolex Datejust 36 ref. 1603 (circa 1973) is an absolute icon. This example features a grey linen-style dial with crisp white text, and collectors will note it’s also a “sigma dial,” identified by the sigma symbols flanking “T Swiss T” at the bottom. The sigma designation signifies the use of gold—specifically white gold—in the hands and hour markers. This practice began in the 1970s as part of an initiative by L’Association pour la Promotion Industrielle de l’Or (APIOR) to clearly mark watches containing precious gold, a meaningful distinction on steel models where white gold and stainless steel can appear similar. The ref. 1603 features an engine-turned stainless steel bezel, giving the watch a distinct character that pairs beautifully with the texture of the dial. This example includes its box and papers (embossed numbers), making it a particularly attractive and complete set.
