Vintage Rolex Submariner 1680
The model 1680 was first released to the market in the late 1960's. It made history as the first Submariner manufactured with a date wheel. The COSC certified 1570 movement found in the Submariner 5512 was modified slightly for use in the 1680 in order to maneuver the date function, introducing the 1575 movement. . While the highly collectible "Red Submariner" is often the first to come to mind when the 1680 is mentioned, the white dial's beauty is not to be overlooked. The stunning "feet before meters" Mark I dial features beautiful creamy hour markers and hands which have aged a few shades darker. The silver date-wheel features open 6's and 9's. The 1680 has a depth rating of 660ft or 200m, which is consistent with the other Submariners of that time. This watch has a 6.1 million serial number which places it near the final year the model was produced. While the Mark 1 dial is not often seen on a watch of this age, it is not unheard of. The bezel has faded to a beautiful "Ghost" grey, which is highly sought after by collectors.
