While many people associate the Santos name with the modern Santos de Cartier sports watch, the Santos-Dumont takes a noticeably different approach. It’s thinner, lighter, and far more elegant overall, designed less as an everyday sports model and more as a classic dress watch with strong historical roots. The regular Santos de Cartier features a thicker case, integrated bracelet, and more robust wrist presence, while the Santos-Dumont stays closer to the slim proportions and understated sophistication of the early Santos watches that helped define Cartier watchmaking in the first place. Originally created for pioneering aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont in the early 1900s, the Santos is widely regarded as one of the first purpose-built wristwatches for men. This modern interpretation keeps all the design signatures collectors expect, including the square case with exposed screws, Roman numeral dial, chemin-de-fer minute track, and blued-steel sword hands.

Even Better In Person

The watch looked nice in pictures, but was even better in person. For a pre-owned Cartier watch, it almost looks new.
