The OysterQuartz series holds a special place in Rolex history as the only collection powered by a Quartz movement. Its production spanned an era in Swiss watchmaking that many in the industry refer to as the Quartz Crises, a time when overseas watchmaking companies producing affordable quartz watches threatened to topple the Swiss companies. In response, Rolex released their own collection of quartz-powered watches, complete with movements developed in-house and the classic Rolex aesthetic that we all know and love. Reference 17013 is just one such example that features a Datejust dial and a two-tone finish. In addition, the angular case shape and integrated bracelet distinguish it as a member of the discontinued Rolex OysterQuartz series.
