Pre-owned Patek Philippe Calatrava 5119G-001 (2019) is about as pure as dress watches get. Everything is reduced to the essentials, and nothing feels out of place. Patek perfectly executed the dial here with slim Roman numerals, tapered black hands, and a small seconds sub-dial at 6, for a balanced layout. The 36mm white gold case is classically elegant, neither too large nor too small. It is framed by Patek’s signature hobnail bezel, a design element that has been part of the Calatrava design language for decades. Inside is the manually wound caliber 215 PS, thin, traditional, and finished to the level you’d expect from Patek Philippe. Paired with a leather strap, it’s the kind of watch that doesn’t take over the wrist or command attention for that matter, either. It doesn’t need to. It’s simply one of the most timeless designs ever put on a wrist.
