Pre-owned Rolex GMT-Master ref 16700 (1999) has an interesting history. Produced from the late 1980s through the end of the 1990s, it was actually the last of the original GMT-Master line. What makes it more compelling is that it ran alongside the GMT-Master II for several years before being phased out, giving buyers the choice between the classic format and the newer, more advanced version. The key difference lies in the movement. The 16700 doesn’t have the independently adjustable GMT hand like the GMT-Master II, which made it a more affordable option at the time. But that simplicity is exactly why some collectors prefer it today. It feels closer to the original concept. Set it once and track a second time zone without overthinking it. This example has a desirable all-black bezel. It flies under the radar a bit. A clean, late-production GMT-Master that marks the end of an era, and one that tends to resonate with collectors who appreciate the quieter side of the lineup.
