This GMT-Master II is in overall good, attractive vintage condition. The case is in great condition with some scratches and normal signs of wear. The inside caseback is stamped “16760." The numbers between the lugs are clearly visible. The bezel is in good, honest condition with normal wear, scratches, and some fading. The dial is in good, attractive condition with some wear and a fine patina throughout that gives the dial a more matted look. The lume on the dial has developed patina and aged to a striking yellow color. The hands have developed patina and the lume in the hands has been color matches/ relumed to match the dial. This watch has a 78790A Oyster bracelet with 13 links and solid end links. The clasp is stamped "DE 10" indicating it's a later replacement from 2001. The bracelet is in overall great condition with some normal light wear and minimal stretch between the links. The crystal is a Rolex service replacement with the laser etched crown.
Pre-owned Rolex GMT-Master II ref 16760 Fat Lady Coke (1987). Reference 16760 was the first GMT-Master II, a series that came to market in the early 1980s and introduced to the line an independently adjustable 12-hour hand. Initially, the upgraded hand required a thicker movement and thus a thicker case to house it, which is why so many call this model the "Fat Lady" or "Sophia Loren." It has a curvier case, which would later be refined in its successor ref. 16710. Still, this model remains a prized collector's item both for its place in Rolex history and its unique proportions. Interestingly, Rolex only made this model with the red-and-black "Coke" bezel and only in stainless steel. It remained in production for just a few short years, adding yet another layer of collectability to what is already a very desirable Rolex pilot's watch.
