Pre-owned Rolex Explorer II ref 226570 (2023). “Polar” is collector shorthand for the crisp white dial variant, a bright, high-contrast backdrop paired with black-outlined hour markers and hands, plus that famous orange 24-hour hand. The design traces back to the vintage 16550 and 16570, originally designed for cave explorers and polar expeditions where distinguishing day from night actually mattered. The fixed 24-hour bezel and independent GMT hand still serve that purpose, but today it doubles as one of Rolex’s most legible sports models. Compared to the previous 216570, the 226570 looks similar at a glance. It's still 42mm, still bold, but with some important upgrades. The case proportions are slightly slimmer and more balanced, the bracelet features updated proportions and improved clasp refinement, and inside is the newer caliber 3285 with a 70-hour power reserve versus the 48-hour 3187 in the 216570. It’s evolution, not reinvention.
Was curious about what “Excellent” condition means at Bob’s. When the watch arrived, I was blown away by the quality of the polishing job of the watchmaker at Bob’s. For all intents and purposes the watch looked new unworn. I next put it on my Timegrapher to see how it well it was running and was super happy. While wearing it the past 3wks it runs pretty consistently at -1.5s/d well within the +-2s/d Rolex states. I am happy to add this to my collection and would not hesitate to buy another watch from Bob’s in the future.
