Rolex developed the Explorer shortly after Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary became the first men to reach the peak of Mount Everest. During their climb, it's rumored that one of those men was wearing a Rolex Oyster on their wrist. The Explorer celebrates that historic feat and boasts a feature set that is ready to take on some of the world's most extreme environments.
The ref. 14270 is outfitted with Rolex's iconic waterproof Oyster case and features a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and resilient stainless steel. The time is displayed on a contrasting dial via luminous baton and Arabic hour markers and Mercedes hands. The ref. 14270 also features a comfortable flat-link Oyster bracelet and a chronometer-rated calibre 3000 movement. While the Explorer is a professional series watch, it's highly sought-after by many collectors for its modest feature set and attractive price tag.
