Pre-owned Rolex Explorer ref 124270 (2022) marked the triumphant return of the Explorer 36. For many decades, the series, which debuted in the 1950s, was only available in 36mm. As watch tastes changed, so did how Rolex approached its notoriously under-the-radar mountaineer's tool watch. The 36mm model was discontinued in 2010 to make way for the incoming 39mm Explorer. While the newer version catered to a growing trend toward larger watches among modern collectors, the classic 36mm was sorely missed, and Rolex brought it back in 2021. Interestingly, two 36mm versions now exist: stainless steel and two-tone. Many gravitate towards the Rolex 124270 for sale here because it's as close to the original as you can get while incorporating modern materials, such as the longer-lasting Chromalight, the next-gen caliber 3230, and a sapphire crystal.
