Rolex introduced the DeepSea deep saturation diver in 2008 via ref. 116660. Its claim to fame is a unique case that offers waterproofness up to 12,800 feet via a screw-down Titanium case back, a triple-sealed Triplock screw-down crown, a thicker sapphire crystal, and a Ring Lock System. The case is also equipped with a Helium Escape Valve at 10 o'clock, which allows gasses to escape the case properly without dislodging the crystal.
In 2012 James Cameron became the first person to dive solo to the Mariana Trench, a feat during which the director donned a Rolex DeepSea on his wrist. To celebrate this achievement, Rolex released a commemorative DeepSea in 2014 outfitted with a striking D-Blue gradient dial affectionately known by avid collectors as the "James Cameron Rolex".
