The Rolex Sea-Dweller was introduced to market in 1967, bringing with it a depth rating of up to 2,000 feet. The ref. 16660 - aka Triple Six - came to market in the late 1970s and is heralded by many collectors in-the-know as the first modern Sea-Dweller. The ref. 16660 was the first in the line to offer a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, a slightly larger case and a larger Helium Escape Valve, increased waterproofness up to 4,000 feet, a unidirectional timing bezel, and a higher-beat calibre 3035 Perpetual movement. The dial is available in either matte or glossy finishes, with the latter of the two showcased on the preowned Rolex that is for sale here today. The glossy dial is also topped with modern luminous hour markers and hands in white gold surrounds, adding even further to its contemporary aesthetic. If you seek a Sea-Dweller with immense horological significance, the Triple Six is an excellent option to consider.
