The first GMT Master pilot's watch was developed in the 1950s and offered dual-time capabilities via a 24-hour rotatable bezel and a dedicated hand on the dial. In the 1980s, the line saw an upgrade to the GMT Master II, which brought with it an independent hand and, thus, the ability to read a third timezone. The ref. 116710 is one of the newest variation of the line that displays the dedicated hand in green on the dial as well as larger "Maxi" luminous plots and Mercedes hands. The bezel insert is now in ceramic Cerachrom material and holds a much richer hue and won't scratch or fade as easily as its aluminum predecessors. The ref. 116710 also offers a slightly more robust hold on the wrist than its 40mm diameter might suggest, thanks to wider lugs and a larger crown guard.
