Pre-owned Rolex Day-Date 40 ref 228238 (2019). The gold Day-Date has been around for as long as the collection has been in production, dating back to the mid-1950s. However, Rolex didn't start experimenting with larger case sizes until 2008 with the Day-Date II. That model was 41mm in diameter and left a lot of room for refinement. Fast-forward a few more years to 2015 and the release of the Day-Date 40, with perfected proportions and a slightly larger 40mm case. 1mm smaller, it was still larger than the traditional DD36. As a result, ref. 228238 and its counterparts became a popular choice among contemporary collectors. The example you see here pairs the precious metal finish with an extraordinary black dial decorated with Chromalight.
