Pre-owned Rolex Daytona ref 126506 (2023). To truly understand this watch, we must go back to 2013. It was the Daytona's 50th anniversary, and expectations were incredibly high that the Crown would finally release a stainless steel model with a ceramic bezel. However, that wouldn't happen until ref. 116500 was released in 2016. Instead, the Crown surprised everyone by releasing the first platinum Daytona with a chestnut brown ceramic bezel and ice blue dial, no less. It was a far departure from what collectors were expecting. However, one could argue that this unique design is what makes an already exclusive platinum Rolex even more collectible.
Fast forward to 2023 and the release of the current production platinum Daytona. It has a similar chestnut brown ceramic bezel and ice blue dial but several notable cosmetic upgrades and a shiny new movement. One of the most notable upgrades is the bezel, which is now trimmed in platinum to match the case. Furthermore, the dial is decorated with slightly slimmer sub-dial rings for an overall cleaner aesthetic. Lastly, Rolex has equipped the ref. 126506 with the caliber 4131, the successor to the brand's first in-house chronograph movement, the caliber 4130. It has fewer components and a stunning Rolex Côtes de Genève decoration, which we can view for the first time on a Daytona watch through the exhibition case back. The icy blue dial has a delicate sunray texture and tasteful baguette-cut diamonds that serve as the baton hour markers, and the matching sweeping hands are filled with Rolex's proprietary Chromalight, a long-lasting material that glows bright blue in the dark.
