The GMT Master reference 16700 enjoyed a production run from 1988 - 1999. During that time, it introduced the GMT Master family to the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and a new case design. The reference 16700 that is offered here today features the iconic GMT Master styling that Rolex aficionados crave with a red and blue "Pepsi" bezel and black dial topped with distinct Tritium luminous hour markers and "Mercedes" hands. A GMT hand circles the dial once every 24 hours and is designed to help the wearer track their home and local time while traveling, a feature that was originally designed by Rolex in collaboration with the Pan Am Company as a tool for their pilots. Since its introduction in 1954, the GMT Master has become a symbol of tough Rolex construction with a waterproof 40mm Oyster case and a five-piece link Jubilee bracelet and Fliplock clasp.
