This Submariner is in excellent, honest vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is strong with some wear and scratches; it has been polished. The bezel insert is in great condition with some wear and scratches. The bezel ring has some wear and nicks near 10 o'clock. The pip at 12 has aged to a pale yellow/ chalk color and shows some wear. This watch has retained its correct "non trip-lock" crown. The matte black dial has developed light patina and is in overall excellent condition with some darker patina around the edges. The lume plots on the hour markers have developed patina and aged to a striking yellow color. The hands have developed patina and the lume has aged to the same color as the lume on the dial. The Rivet Oyster bracelet is in great, honest condition with some scratches and wear, it has a bit of stretch between the links. The crystal has some scratches and light wear. The crystal has some light wear.
Rolex introduced ref. 5513 around 1962 and it was in production until 1989. It was one of the longest continually produced references from the brand. Rolex initially used glossy dials in this model and swapped to matte around 1966, like this example. When Rolex went to the matte dial they also put the depth rating as "200m = 660ft" and would eventually go from meters first to feet first, like on this example. One theory on this change is that Rolex wanted to boost sales in the United States, but to our knowledge Rolex has not made any definitive statements on this shift. Rolex still uses the "feet first" for the depth rating today. Rolex made a few different variations of the "feet first" Subs and this one falls into the "non-serif" category.
This example is circa 1971 and is coming directly from the family of the original owner. This watch has aged beautifully over the years from the nicely preserved bezel insert to the striking yellow lume on the dial.

Fantastic transaction and watch even better than described / pictures. Tanya was great to deal with, easy communication, give her a raise!
Watch shows better then in pictures . Second watch purchased from Bobs since October. Very happy with both experiences . I mistakenly overpaid on the price.of my last purchase. Along with the watch was a check for the overpayment. I feel Bobs as honest and trustworthy. Thanks
Excellent service . Fantastic communication. I couldn’t of asked for more .
The watch was delivered very quickly and was exactly as advertised. They even provided a few vintage pamphlets from the period. All my questions were answered promptly. Overall great experience. I will definitely buy my next Rolex from Bob’s.
The condition of this vintage Rolex 5513 is nicer than I anticipated based on the age. Your staff was very helpful and went out of their way to help make sure I had enough links in the band.
