This Tudor chronograph is in overall great, honest vintage condition. The case is in great condition with some scratches, nicks and normal signs of wear. The bevels on the lugs are still visible. The text on the caseback is clearly visible. The numbers are clearly visible and crisp between the lugs and the inside caseback is stamped, “9420.” The bezel is in great condition with some scratches, nicks and normal signs of wear. Some of the numbers show wear. The dial and hands are in excellent condition with light patina. The lume on the dial has developed patina and has aged to an attractive creamy white/ pale yellow color. The hands and hour markers have developed light patina. The lume in the hands is matching in color to the lume on the dial. This has a Rolex signed 7836 folded bracelet with 13 links and no. 382 end links. The clasp is not date stamped. The bracelet is in overall great condition with some scratches and normal signs of wear; it has a little stretch between the links which is not uncommon.
Tudor came out with the ref. 94300 around 1976 and these watches were among the first Tudors to operate on an automatic chronograph movement via the celebrated Valjoux caliber 7750. The case had to take on a thicker profile to accommodate the then-new movement, which is why it is now affectionately referred to as the "Big Block" Tudor. These also feature a quick-set date which is always handy. Tudor made different variations and this version is referred to as the "Monte Carlo Big Block" due to the exotic black dial with orange and white accents. This example has a "Solo" dial meaning it just says "Tudor" next to the date window, some variations have additional text.
These Tudor chronographs offer extraordinary value because they resemble 4-digit Rolex Daytona ref. 6265s from the same era, complete with screw-down side pushers and a similar bezel, but for a fraction of the price.
I wanted a vintage watch, but I didn't like the price of the Rolex models available. This watch fits the bill. It is just what I wanted and at a much more affordable price.
The size is not too intrusive and it fits on my wrist with amazing comfort. I have a Tudor BBR 41mm and I always feel that I’m knocking it on carious things. This 36mm sub is perfect!
