This Tudor Submariner is in overall great, honest vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The case is in strong condition with some scratches, nicks, and wear throughout. The inside caseback is stamped "7928 III.65." The top of the seven o'clock lug has some deeper scratches. The writing on the caseback is all clear and in tact. Between the lugs show some scratches and the numbers are clearly vsible. The bevels are still visible. The "Long 5" bezel ring has remained sharp and the bezel insert is overall well preserved with some scratches and normal signs of wear. The watch has retained its correct crown (non trip-lock, without three dots). The chapter ring dial has developed a fine and consistent patina throughout (this can be hard to notice). The chapter ring has a few slight imperfections when looking under a loupe (this is also hard to notice). The lume on the dial has developed patina and have aged to an attractive buttery yellow color. The hands have developed patina and the lume in the hands has developed patina and aged similarly to the lume on the dial. The 6636 rivet Oyster bracelet is in good condition with 11 links. The clasp is stamped "1 66" with "80" end links. There are normal signs of wear and scratches on the bracelet with a bit of stretch between the links. Some links have indentations. The top two links on the 12 o'clock side wont completely retract. The crystal has some scratches and wear.
The reference 7928 was introduced in 1959. Here we have a beautiful Tudor Submariner from circa 1965. This example has aged nicely over the years and has taken on a lovely patina. From the well preserved bezel to the chapter ring dial and expanding rivet bracelet - this checks all the boxes.
This watch has a few stand out features that are worth mentioning. First off this is of the chapter ring variation which is always a treat to come across; we love the combination of the gilt colored chapter ring with the silver text. The dial has the "self-winding" text in an upward arch and collectors refer to this as a "smiley." Tudor used this detail in some of the modern Black Bay watches so it's nice to see the history of this detail. The dial also features a "Rose" logo which is something Tudor stopped doing around 1969 when they went to the shield logo.
This Tudor is one of the best vintage examples I have seen in a long time. Thank you Bob's for the great timepiece. The watch looks even better in person!
