Vintage Tudor Ranger ref 90220 is in overall great, honest vintage condition. The case is in good condition with scratches, nicks and normal signs of wear. The case has been polished. The inside caseback is stamped "9052." All the text on the caseback is clearly visible. The numbers are clearly visible and crisp between the lugs. The dial is in overall great condition with light patina and some light marks that can be hard to notice. The lume on the dial has developed patina and aged to a beautiful yellow color. The hands have developed patina and the lume has aged to a similar color as the lume on the dial. When looking closely, the lume in the hour and minutes hand the texture is a bit shiny compared to the seconds and those hands have possibly been relumed. This watch has a 7835 folded link Oyster bracelet with 12 links and Tudor branded clasp. The clasp is stamped "J6" indicating its from 1985. The bracelet is in overall good, honest condition with normal signs of wear and scratches, it has some stretch between the links. The crystal has some scratches and wear.
Here we have a vintage Tudor Ranger ref 90220 in overall great, honest condition and comes with its box, papers, and serialized hang-tag! The Ranger is a rare and interesting watch that Tudor offered from the 1960s through the 1980s. Tudor offered a few different versions of the Ranger with date and non-date, manual and automatic models. This example is the non-date, automatic version and is the last variation of the model before it was discontinued until Tudor re-released it in 2014. Collectors refer to the Ranger as Tudor's "Explorer" due to the similar dial layout and overall style, however the Ranger is 34mm and the Explorer is 36mm.
This example is coming from our client who purchased the watch at Tourneau back in 1990; he said it was new and they put his name on the papers, but its interesting because the watch case number dates to 1974, the bracelet is date-stamped 1985 and it was sold on May 3, 1990 (according to the papers). When looking at the papers closely, the reference number at the top mentions the bracelet reference number that is on the watch. The Ranger wasn't a very popular model and not many are out there, what we gathered is that Tudor used a left over case and assembled the watch in the mid-1980s and it sat and then sold in 1990 to our client. We love that our client saved the box, papers, serialized hang-tag, Tudor booklet, and even the Tourneau wrapping ribbon. The Ranger has gained popularity in recent years due to the style and rarity and we are excited to offer this example.
