The Air-King was developed in 1945 as a tribute of sorts to the pilots of the British Royal Air Force. It was rumored that these men preferred the Rolex Oyster over their military-issued timepieces, and the concept behind the Air-King was born. The Air-King is a bit of a diamond in the rough as it is often overlooked by collectors but also brings a versatile and affordable entry-level price to the table as well as sophisticated Rolex dress watch design. Its feature set usually includes a modest 34mm Oyster case, a time-only movement, and a flat-link Oyster bracelet. The ref. 114210 is a newer variation of the line that also features 904L-grade Oystersteel, a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, a luminous display on the dial, and a chronometer-rated self-winding movement.
