Pre-owned Rolex Daytona ref 116523 (2005 - 2006) is a luxurious take on Rolex's famous racing chronograph. First introduced in 1963 and named after the legendary Daytona International Speedway in Florida, the Cosmograph Daytona was originally developed with professional race car drivers in mind. Today, it's one of the most coveted watches in the Rolex catalog, appreciated just as much for its history and design as its chronograph functionality. This example features a 40mm stainless steel Oyster case with an 18k yellow gold tachymeter bezel and a matching two-tone Oyster bracelet. The black dial is particularly striking, featuring diamond hour markers. Inside is the self-winding caliber 4130, introduced in 2000 as Rolex's first entirely in-house automatic chronograph movement. Before that, the Daytona relied on a modified Zenith El Primero movement. The caliber 4130 brought a more efficient design, a vertical clutch chronograph mechanism, and an impressive 72-hour power reserve. Rolex continued using this movement until 2023, making the ref. 116523 part of an important generation in Daytona history.
