Pre-owned Rolex Explorer ref 124270 (2024) marked the return of the Explorer 36 during its debut in 2021. The traditionally no-nonsense tool watch had always been a compact 36mm. However, Rolex began experimenting with more contemporary options in 2010 with an upsized 39mm model. With the larger case size, the Explorer 36 was discontinued. Thankfully for the purists, the Explorer in its original form (and with a slew of modern upgrades, of course) has returned. It carries the next-gen caliber 3230 with a longer 70-hour power reserve. It displays the time on a sharp black dial via longer-lasting Chromalight, a proprietary Rolex material that's crisp white in the light and emits a striking blue glow in the dark. Rolex also makes this watch in two-tone. However, ref. 124270 keeps it classic in durable steel.
