The first GMT Master came to market during the dawn of transatlantic flight. At the behest of the Pan American Company, Rolex developed a sports watch with dual-time capabilities, creating a timepiece that could sync with a second time zone from anywhere in the world. Today, the steel and Pepsi Rolex GMT Master remains one of the most sought-after variations of the model. The ref. 16700 came to market in 1988 and continued production until the late 1990's. What is particularly remarkable about this pre-owned Rolex is the fact that it was produced alongside its predecessor the GMT Master II for more than a decade.
