This Breitling Chronograph is in overall great, honest vintage condition. The case is in good condition with normal signs of wear and tarnish on the gold plating. The back of the case shows tarnish as-well. The edge where the caseback comes off shows some nicks and scratches, this is from when the caseback was removed in the past. While the gold plating is tarnished, the chamfers are still crisp and contrast polishing still very visible indicating the watch may have only ever been lightly polished. The numbers and lettering are clearly visible on the caseback. The dial is in overall good, attractive condition and has developed light patina almost blending into the dial in certain lighting conditions. The lume on the dial has developed patina and some plots show signs of degradation. The hands contrast nicely and the lume has aged to a slightly lighter color to the lume on the dial. The watch comes on a 19mm brown leather strap with matching hardware.
Breitling produced countless chronographs over the years, and while the Navitimer is often the first model that comes to mind, the brand also embraced the bold design language of the 1970s. A great example is the reference 1451. This chronograph features a 42mm gold-plated tonneau case with sharp bevels that play beautifully against the sunburst finish. The gold has tarnished over the years, adding that unmistakable vintage character we love.
The gold-tone sunburst dial complements the case perfectly, while the engine-turned sub-dials introduce just the right amount of texture. Black hands and dial text provide crisp contrast and legibility.
All in all, if you're in the mood for a funky gold chronograph with real personality, this one is worth a closer look.
