Sigma dials are marked by small Greek sigma symbols at the bottom of the dial, indicating that the hour markers and hands are made from solid gold rather than plated metal. Rolex used Sigma dials during the 1970s to highlight the use of precious materials, and finding one on an all-steel model like this makes it especially interesting to collectors. The slate dial is accented by Tritium plots above each hour marker, which have aged into a light, attractive patina over time.
