This Oyster Perpetual is in overall good, attractive vintage condition. The case is in good condition with normal signs of wear. The inside caseback is stamped "6284" with three horizontal lines crossing it out and below is "I.55 18 and 6285." We have seen Rolex "recycle" case backs before for similar references by crossing out the reference number and re-stamping the updated one. Between the lugs show wear and the numbers are still visible. This watch has retained its correct "Brevet" crown ( crown has a + on it under the coronet). The bezel is in good condition with some wear and nicks. The silvery-white dial is in overall attractive condition with patina; when looking closely it has some scratches and wear. The hour markers and hands have developed patina. The lume on the dial has developed patina; most of the plots show signs of degradation. The hands have been relumed. This watch has a rivet Oyster 7205 bracelet with no. 61 end links and 13 links; the clasp is dated "2 67" indicating it's from 1967. The bracelet is in overall great condition with normal wear and a bit of stretch between the links which isn't uncommon.
Each timepiece in the Rolex brand is so well-made that many watches often last a lifetime and are cherished family heirlooms. The vintage Oyster Perpetual ref. 6285 is an early model that was produced in the late 1950's. Its stunning feature set includes a modest 34mm Oyster case in stainless steel, a matching engine-turned bezel, and a silvery-white dial with triangular hour markers and Arabic "3, 6, and 9" earning this giving this watch an "Explorer" looking athestic. Due to the popularity of the Explorer, we see many collectors gravitate towards these "3,6,9" dial OP's.
