This Bubbbleback is in overall good, honest condition with wear consistent with age. The case is in good condition with normal signs of wear with scratches and nicks. The yellow gold case has developed patina giving it a bit of a warm glow that can make it look pink in certain lights. The hallmark on the back of the 5 o'clock lug is clearly visible. The serial number between the lugs at six o'clock is visible. The non-luminous dial is in good, attractive condition and has developed patina throughout and has some wear and scratches. The gold hour markers and hands have developed patina. The crystal has some scratches.

The ref. 3131 that you see here today is a rare and very fine edition of the older-model Oyster Perpetual that was produced some time in the 1940s. Its feature set includes a stunning 14kt gold finish and an automatic movement. The Bubbleback was among the first timepieces to use a self-winding movement and is a highly prized collector's item. Due to its unique case shape, the ref. 3131 is also known as the Ovettone, which means Little Egg in Italian. In Hong Kong, it also goes by the intriguing nickname Little Coffin. This example features a yellow gold case with matching hour markers and hands and a non-luminous dial which is always nice. These "Bubblebacks" were originally intended for a mans wrist, but today would be great for anyone especially with smaller case sizes becoming more popular.
From the dial to the case, we love how this 3131 has aged giving it a unique character!
It isn't easy to find these great little Rolex 3131 watches anymore. I was excited when I found this one for sale. They look just as good in person. Will add to my collection!
